I wrote this piece during Covid lockout, whilst wondering what rock bands were doing when they couldn't perform

Band on the run

The gig’s a-rockin’ nicely

The band have travelled far

But you know that you’ve got trouble

“Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The bass player’s just stood there

His mouth wide, and ajar

He knows the band is in a mess

‘Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The lead guitar’s just unplugged

His Strat has gone into care

He knows its time to give up the ghost

‘Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The rhythm’s lost his rhythm

Frettin, stood there with glassy stare

He knows you’re in a bloody jam

“Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The singer, what can I say,

Stands pulling his grey hair

He knows the gig’s gone up the spout

‘Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The B of the beat, got the hang of the twang

As he plays on without any care

He’s benefitted from Lockdown

‘Cos the drummer’s bought,

And learned to play guitar.

The band’s in a mess, the gig is now lost

The situation’s a bummer

But they’ll get their revenge

On the B of the beat

When the rest of the band become drummers!
